Our 2019 Christmas fundraising was a big success thanks to our staff volunteers and to all the incredible individuals who donated!
Thanks to our Nail Trim Drive event and our draw for the $100 Charleswood Veterinary Clinic gift card that we donated, we were able to raise $1,266.50 (along with a good haul of dog food!) for the local animal rescue, Manitoba Underdogs.
Thank you to all our fantastic clients for such a great year in 2019.
We look forward to looking after your four-legged family members over the course of 2020!
Welcome Dr. Heather Bassey!
Dr. Bassey graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. She was raised in the Charleswood area and has always hoped to return to practice in the community. She has her Fear Free Certification and strongly believes in making vet visits as low stress as possible.
She has been an incredible addition to our team of veterinarians and we are very excited for you to meet her!
The month of October marks Technician Appreciation Month.
Ila, a technician of 30 years and now the Practice Manager of the Charleswood Veterinary Clinic would like to take the time to convey a message of appreciation towards all the Registered Veterinary Technicians, especially the special individuals at our clinic. RVTs are the equivalent to human nurses, anesthesiologist, and even dental hygienists. They hold a very important position and we'd like you to know how they play a role in your pet's health as well.
Elise started at our clinic in 2010 as a veterinary assistant/receptionist. This gave her the knowledge of all aspects of the clinic to transform into the exceptional registered technician she is today. She is extremely gifted when viewing and analyzing any samples under the microscope.
She has been employed with the Charleswood Vet since 2009. Maria has an excellent bedside manner as she greets every patient and family with a contagious smile. She presents herself confidently and calmly in any situation that walks through the door.
Kim joined our team in 2014. She is an experienced technician and has perfected her skills. She is soft spoken and truly caring, which radiates comfort onto each patient she handles.
Confidence is Amy's strongest suit. She has brought numerous skills to the Charleswood Vet as she takes on any new challenge that comes her way. She has recently mastered canine massage and body work.
Caitlin works with our team part time as she is shared with our sister clinic, Crestview Animal Hospital. Caitlin is very pleasant, easy going and we are very grateful to have her. Though she is just here a limited amount of time, her hard working presence is noticed and greatly appreciated.
We are fortunate to have Taylor join our team recently. She is an ambitious, quick learner. As a recent graduate, she has already portrayed excellent skills and is continuously meeting new challenges with grace.
RVTs are the hands-on help when it comes to your pet's veterinary care. They treat each patient as if it is their own, with great attention to detail while multi-tasking on a daily basis.
Their duties are very complex - handling fractious pets, difficult blood draws, I.V. catheter placements, monitoring anesthesia and dental cleaning, scaling and polishing to name a few. Anesthesia monitoring is an extremely important part of the patient care during surgery due to changes in blood pressure, heart rates, oxygen and isoflurane gas levels. Maintaining appropriate body temperature and patient comfort is vital. They calculate pharmaceuticals, fluid therapy, injections and anesthetic induction tailored for each pet. Taking x-rays can also be a challenging task depending on which view is required. Accurate measurements on a variety of sized patients, while keeping them calm, still and positioned for the veterinarian to make an accurate diagnosis.
RVTs have to keep their wits about them during very upsetting cases with unfortunate diagnoses. They are a part of the last moments of a beloved pet's life when placing the last I.V. catheter for euthanasia. They look into the pets eyes knowing they are a part of their last glance.
Hats off to all you Registered Veterinary Technicians who continue to work hard day after day to provide great care to all of our pets while meeting the needs of the veterinarians. Thank you for absolutely everything you do.
